PS Vita Wi-Fi Console with Starter Pack and Uncharted: Golden Abyss

Having spent the best part of six months unsure as to whether I would buy the system, I finally took the plunge after learning that the Playstation Plus subscription perk would be making its way onto the system this November (2012). Although that hasn't yet made its way to fruition, I have to admit that I'm pretty smitten with my new handheld.

After booting up and sitting through a dull presentation, I was first disheartened by the overall look of the menu interface (admittedly, although I'm still not entirely convinced, it has grown on me somewhat). The navigation itself however is easy, intuitive and with a bit of housekeeping can be made exact to your requirements.

In my short time with the system, I am amazed by the level of shine to each and every game I've played. To think that the graphics on show are so close to PS3 quality and from such a tiny unit with such a jaw-droppingly spectacular screen, it's often unbelievable.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss is amazing. Set in the same timeline as its console counterparts, it retains all the humour and action that has become a staple for the series, along with some jaw dropping graphics which you can only admire your little PS Vita for managing to produce. With its compelling storyline and trophy support, it is not a game that will sit on my shelf for long (even if it has to take a back seat for the faultless Little Big Planet Vita).

If I were to make a comment on its downside, I'd have to go with the lack of new games seeming to come through. Yes, Assassins Creed: Liberation and Need for Speed Most Wanted have come out in the past two weeks (both recommended from initial plays), but there isn't too much appearing on the horizon.

I'll ignore the points of needing to purchase a separate memory card in order to play games, I've been playing video games for the past twenty years, firstly, I couldn't save games back then, secondly, when the invent of game saves came about I was required to purchase memory cards separately and lastly, given everything this handheld units manages to provide, for the price points its available for, I don't feel hard done by. That wasn't quite ignoring that subject, was it..?

Overall, I'm more than delighted with the purchase. If you are on the fence with buying this system, I couldn't recommend taking the plunge enough. Seriously a great bit of kit.
