"Evil emerges once again."

So, Resident Evil is back but is it back with a bang? Well not really. You see whilst the game may look great and be bigger than ever, I was left a little bit disappointed. Since the excellent Resident Evil 4, the franchise hasn't been able to live up to the premier gameplay of that installment. I have to admit that I was really excited about the newest game but after playing it I'm not too sure. One of the major problems with the new game mechanics is an over-reliance on QTE's which mange to be pretty annoying. More often than not you'll be engrossed in action when suddenly the controls switch to awful quick time event where you are forced to waggle the analogue stuck in a frustratingly, long sequence. These events happen more frequently than they should and you are left increasingly annoyed as you wait to return to the action. The game is also somewhat disjointed. There are some new ideas here and the various campaigns on offer are different enough to make the game good value for money. It's just that it doesn't feel very fun to play. Heading further and further away from the 'survival horror' genre this new entry in the genre becomes more action orientated game than it ever has. Whilst it may have gorgeous graphics, a great cast of characters and a long campaign, I cannot help but feel disappointed by RE6. Resident Evil 4 still stands as one of the greatest games to be released and here's hoping a Resident Evil 7 can live up to it's legacy as I think the 6th installment has left us all a little cold.
