LG BP620 3D Smart Wi-Fi Blu-ray Player

Using this as an alternative to using my PS3 for blu-ray and 3d Blu-ray. I was particularly attracted to some of its features such as Wifi and MKV playback.

Setting up the player was a breeze and it didn`t take long before I had the Wifi set up and the player connected to my network.

Streaming content works smoothly and as yet I have not had any difficulties when playing movies or music. However something I did notice is that for some reason the player does not display the MKV format videos I have shared on the network, not sure if this is Windows networking issue (Win 7 64) or just the player for some reason ignoring them (bit odd since it is supposed to support them). However I worked around it by installing Playstation3 Media Server (PSM), when connected I see all my videos and they play just fine.

The playback quality of Blu-rays is faultless, they load about as quick as my PS3 and have rich sharp detail in them for excellent viewing pleasure. 3D playback is just right too with no visible Crosstalk and smooth framerate.

Among the usual connections you expect it also has Optical out, I use this to connect to my Home theater amp to get true digital surround sound thanks to nearly all Blu-rays providing DTS audio. I did however have to tinker a little with the settings on the player before it output the correct format to my amp as by default it only sent a stereo signal.

This is certainly one of the quietest Blu-ray players I have had, it hardly makes a sound that I noticed.

It has a nice design to it and is actually even smaller than I originally expected.

Netflix amond other services are already installed in the player, to be honest Netflix is the only app I`m interested in, none of the other apps or games interest me at all. Netflix works perfectly fine on the player, I did notice however that it is a little slower loading films than the PS3, but this is not much of an issue and films display just fine with decent picture and sound quality when loaded.

I am puzzled by the MKV support, why the player does not display MKVs over the network I`m not sure, PSM is a work around but does not show the player actually supporting MKV since PSM does most of the work on the PC. However I have not yet tested a USB card, it may just be the network filters them out but the player may display them from a usb drive.

Overall this is a good player with a nice user interface and decent audio support and features, I don`t have interest in the LG apps, and to be honest most (not that there are many) look rather uninteresting.

its really quiet compared to other blu-ray players i have owned and is very easy to set up, even connecting it to the internet was easy and explained step by step

So easy to use and setup would recommend to anyone.
