Hand-held console pioneers Nintendo are staying ahead of the curve with the new Nintendo DSi, the latest incarnation of the world's best-selling portable video game system.

The touch screen technology, WiFi connectivity and voice recognition capabilities of the Nintendo DS and DS Lite remain, with exciting new additions to further improve the experience.

The casing is now slimmer (12% small than NSDL) but the screens are actually bigger (17%). Built-in internet also lets you browse on the move.

Two cameras, downloadable Nintendo DSiWare and the option of playing your favourite music via SD cards now make it easier to apply your own personal touch to the DSi, no matter where you are.

You can use it to boost your brain power through the popular Dr Kawashima's Brain Training titles or enjoy immersive gaming with the likes of Professor Layton, Mario Kart and Peppa Pig.

The two cameras - one points towards the user, the other outwards - come with ten lens effects, including distortion, colour and mirror.

    Key features:

    • Games can be 'hot-swapped' without switching off
    • Stylus now fatter and longer
    • SD card slot for music and photos
    • Colour: White
  • Pokemon Soul Silver version takes you back to the scenic Johto region first introduced in the original Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver games nearly a decade ago. The Nintendo DS updated graphics sound and touch screen add new layers of intrigue and excitement to this richly detailed adventure. Heart Gold and Soul Silver both feature new Pokemon characters to explore and discover. You can also enjoy the return of many of the classic Pokemon characters for you to catch & train and battle. The game is bundled with peripheral called the Pokewalker; a pedometer on which players can transfer a single creature to walk alongside them in the real world. Your steps are converted into a currency to unlock mini games; while helping to train your chosen Pokemon so they are more effective in battle. Pokemon Soul Silver can access the Nintendo WiFi Connection and is also fully compatible with Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. Another new part of the game is the Pokeathlon a suite of stylus based mini games such as hurdling. Pokemon Gold Heart version is also available PG831. Age from 3 years.

  • This new instalment still features the animated charm and hand-drawn art that has featured in the previous Professor Layton titles, as well as lots of brand new content. Brand-new mini games and all-new episodes can be unlocked as you progress through the game. Each episode offers you a glimpse into the life of some of the interesting characters that you meet while solving the case.

As well as guiding Layton through this captivating new storyline, you can also get to grips with three new mini games. Lay a train track for a small model train to pass through all the stations and reach the goal, or juggle verbs to get the right performance on stage. The third new mini game involves you guiding a fish around an obstacle course to collect golden coins.

However, if you are new to the series, this is the perfect time to join the millions of existing players across Europe, so be sure that Professor Layton and the Spectre's Call is at the top of your Christmas wish list this festive season.

Professor Layton and the Spectres Call on Nintendo DS Features:

Over 200 new puzzles to solve
Fourth instalment in the popular Layton series, and a prequel to the first game, which shows the player how Layton met his young apprentice, Luke.
New puzzles to enjoy; all puzzles use the Touch Screen.
