    • Corgi Spitfire Mk1A

        CorgiSpitfire Mk1A

Spitfire Mk1A - R6885, EB-Q, Pilot Officer Eric Stanley Lock, No.41 Sqn, Catterick. In 1939, as the threat of war loomed, Eric Stanley Lock joined the RAF Volunteer Reserve and learned to fly. When war was declared in September 1939, he was immediately called up to the RAF. After further training he was commissioned as a Pilot Officer, posted to No. 41 Sqn at Catterick flying Spitfires and chalked up his first kill, a Bf110 on 15th August 1940. On 3rd September the squadron was posted to RAF Hornchurch in Essex. Two days later he achieved his first two kills and within a week he had claimed eight kills, an achievement that earned him his first DFC. Despite being injured several times during the Battle of Britain he went on to achieve 16<0x2219>5 kills making him the highest scoring British born pilot of the conflict. Returning to action after a long period in hospital, on 3rd August 1941 Lockie was shot down over Northern France, his body and aircraft were never found. In just one year this skilful and brave fighter pilot had become a household name, claimed 26<0x2219>5 kills, won a DSO and DFC twice. He died before his 22nd birthday. Age from 8 years.

Warning. Not suitable for children under three years.

      • Corgi BAC Lightning F6

          CorgiBAC Lightning F6

English Electric Lightning F6, serial number XS921, was delivered to 74 Tiger Squadron in December 1966 and initially based at RAF Leuchars in Scotland. In 1967, XS921 and other Lightnings of 74 Sqn made the long journey to Tengah Air Base in Singapore and in doing so became the first RAF fighter unit to make such a journey using air to air refuelling. The deployment to Singapore, codenamed Operation Hydraulic, gave the RAF's Far East Air Force (FEAF) a powerful supersonic fighter element in the region. This was deemed necessary in order to deter the territorial claims made by Indonesia against nearby Malaysia, a British protectorate. The show of strength proved successful and 74 Sqn departed Tengah in August 1971 with the squadron disbanding. Its Lightnings were taken over by 56 Sqn at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. In September 1985, while serving with 11 Sqn, Lightning XS921 was lost after developing technical problems while returning to RAF Binbrook after a training exercise but thankfully the pilot was able to make a successful ejection. Age from 14 years.

          • Corgi Burrell Showmans GT Tuby and Sons

CorgiBurrell Showmans GT Tuby and Sons

The Ex Mayor modelled here was built in 1925 for the amusement caterer GT Tuby & Sons of Doncaster. The engine was of a special design and was the only one built as a 10nhp Special Scenic Showmans Road Locomotive. It was purchased to haul and power the Scenic Railway that Tubys travelled. However, the ride was sold just prior to the engine arriving so it spent its working life driving the dodgems. Its driver Frank Cheffins saved the engine from the scrap yard in the 1940s and sold it on. It passed through several owners including the Rt Hon. Sir William McAlpine where it took pride of place amongst his fine collection of steam and vintage exhibits. It now resides with the Saunders Collection in Bedfordshire and is exhibited all over the UK and in Europe. Age from 14 years. Scale 1:50. Length 25.6cm
